North Charleston armed robbery suspect given $400,000 bond

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – A 19-year-old arrested Wednesday after allegedly robbing two people at gunpoint, appeared in bond court Thursday.

North Charleston police say John Whitlock stole a victim’s car after stealing a woman’s purse and crashed into a pick-up truck on Rivers Avenue and McMillian.

Shots were exchanged between Whitlock and officers after he attempted to run from the scene.

Whitlock was given a $400,000 bond for several charged including armed robbery.

Thankfully, no officers were injured. Whitlock was transported to MUSC for evaluation.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting.
