Officers gather for the Reading Patrol at the N. Charleston Barnes and Noble

The police were called today to the Barnes and Noble in North Charleston but there was no problem. It was the monthly appearance of The Reading Patrol.

Uniformed officers sit down with local kids and read to them, not your everyday police experience.

It’s a very sought after assignment according to North Charleston Deputy Chief Karen Cordray even though the officers are off duty and volunteering their time. In fact, some of them have done this several times.

The Reading Patrol program takes place every month at the Barnes and Noble in North Charleston.
