Officials identify body found floating in the Edisto River

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCBD) – Authorities have identified the body of a person who was found floating in the Edisto River as a missing man from Columbia.

Sunday morning, several residents who were checking trot fishing lines stumbled across a deceased body floating in the Edisto River.

An autopsy was conducted at MUSC where investigators were able to positively identify the body as 29-year-old Bernard Lamar Stroman of Columbia.

On November 29th, a deputy was dispatched to Augusta Highway in reference to a suspicious vehicle on the side of a bridge.

The deputy made contact with the vehicle, described as a black Honda Accord. The vehicle was determined to be unsecured and unoccupied.

Investigators later learned the owner of the car, Bernard Stroman, had been reported missing from the Columbia area through the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.

The area around the car was search at that time, but there were no signs of anyone.

It was then the Edisto River was near flood stage. The Department of Natural Resources assisted the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office in searching the river for a possible body, but nothing was ever recovered.
