Officials identify victim in fatal auto-pedestrian crash on Rivers Avenue

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – The intersection of Rivers Avenue and Otranto Road was shut down for several hours Wednesday following a fatal collision.

According to Major Scott Perry with the North Charleston Police Department, officers were dispatched to the intersection just after 5:00 a.m. in response to an auto-pedestrian accident.

Upon arrival, officers observed a pedestrian, later identified as 73-year-old Richard Morgan Jr., lying unconscious in the roadway.

Deputy Coroner Christina Harrison said Morgan died because of injuries sustained in the crash.

NCPD, Charleston County EMS, North Charleston Fire and the Charleston County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.

The North Charleston Police Department is investigating the incident.
