One dead after accident involving train, car in Colleton County

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – One person is dead following an accident involving a train and car in Colleton County.

Troopers say the incident happened on Weiss Lane in Green Pond on October 20 at 9:20 a.m.

The Amtrak Train was traveling north on the track at the time of the crash, according to Cpl. Matt Southern.

The driver of a Ford Crown Victoria was traveling east on Weiss Lane and approached the crossing and was struck by the train, Southern added.

The victim was not wearing a seat belt and received fatal injuries on scene.

Colleton County Fire – Rescue, the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

No one on the Amtrak Train was injured, according to officials.
