Parking changes come to Isle of Palms

Local News

ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCBD) – There are a couple of changes to parking on the Isle of Palms that are already in effect.

If you want to park in a lot, it’s going to cost you a little bit more.

“This year, most days are going to be, Monday through Friday, that’s 10 dollars, but Saturday, Sunday, and holidays are going to be 12 dollars. That’s the flat rate for the day. If you park between 4pm and 8pm, it’s only 2 dollars an hour, rather than paying the full price,” said Capt. Jeffrey Swain with the IOP Police Dept.

Parking along Palm Boulevard is going to be a bit different.

“This year, there’s new parallel parking rules in effect on Palm Boulevard which is a very popular place for people to park when they come to the beach. Specifically between 21st Avenue and 40th Avenue, so that’s now all parallel parking only,” Swain said.

You also cannot double park, meaning you cannot park on the passenger side of another vehicle.

“There’s new signage in place that’s going to help people to see the new parallel parking and no double parking rules that are there in that area,” Swain said.

All of this is a response to the amount of cars coming to IOP during the tourist season.
