Patriot’s Point offering a free symposium

Mount Pleasant, S.C. (WCBD)-  Happening Today, a free black history month symposium on board the USS Yorktown!

Today marks the 35th symposium in this series titled, “Ordinary people doing extraordinary things”.

The event will have two guest speakers aboard the ship, World War II veteran Rufus Lockwood and College of Charleston Professor Michael Owens.

Lockwood plans to share memories of his life as a young black man during the war and Owens will discuss the importance of preserving oral histories, like Lockwood’s, for future generations.

The event starts at 10am. Parking and admission are free, just let staff members know you’re there for the symposium.
