Paws Around Town: How you can help shelter dogs enjoy a day on the town

Local News

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – If you really want a dog, but you’re not ready to adopt just yet – we have a program for you.

The Charleston Animal Society is launching “Paws Around Town,” a program that allows you to take a dog for the day without having to commit to adopting.

Charleston Animal Society says this is a way to allow dogs a day out on the town.

“People can start participating as soon as this weekend,” said Christina Ellwood with Charleston Animal Society. “You do have to sign up to be a foster or volunteer, which is really easy—you can go online and fill out the application.”

Ellwood said the program will be open every day beginning this weekend.

After each “field trip” you must fill out a report card on the animals you take out so the staff can have a better look at the personalities of adoptable dogs outside the stressful shelter environment.
