GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WBTW) – A person in Georgetown was shot multiple times, leading to a nearby school being placed on “lockout” status, officials say.
The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office reports a person was shot in the Greentown community, off Lincolnshire Drive, Monday afternoon just before 2 p.m. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to the sheriff’s office, and is being treated at Grand Strand Medical Center.
Georgetown County School District spokesperson Ray White says because McDonald Elementary School is close to the crime scene, the school was placed on “lockout” status. White says the shooting happened near the end of the school day, so the sheriff’s office assisted with school dismissal as a precaution.
“There was no threat to the school,” said Assistant Sheriff Carter Weaver.
Deputies did not comment on a motive for the shooting or if a suspect was in custody. More information will be released as it becomes available, officials report.Keep checking counton2.com for real-time updates on this story.
