NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Officers with the North Charleston Police Department were patrolling in the area of Attaway Street and Sumner Ave on June 3rd.

The incident report stated that officers observed a Silver Volvo S80 operating with defective driver’s side and passenger side brake lights. Public Information Officer Spencer Pryor stated that a traffic stop was initiated at the intersection of Sumner Avenue and Mole Lane.

When the driver pulled over officers observed all the occupants of the vehicle making assertive movements in the vehicle and the rear passenger moving around in the center of the rear seat. Officers requested consent to search from the driver who denied.

A K-9 exterior sniff of the vehicle was conducted resulting in the K-9 alerting in the area of the front driver’s side door.

During a search of the vehicle, officers observed a Black Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm and a Black and Camo Glock 9mm.   A search of the driver, Jasmond Grant, found him in possession of approximately 7 grams of white rock like substance that field tested presumptive for the presence of cocaine.

None of the occupants wanted to claim ownership of the firearms so all three were charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol, according to authorities.

The driver was also charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base.

Jasmond Grant and Shawn Hamilton were transported to Charleston County Detention Center and the 15 year old Juvenile was released to his grandmother.
