BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCBD) – Moncks Corner Police arrested a 15-year-old student for bringing a weapon on campus at Berkeley High School.

Chief Rick Ollic with the Moncks Corner Police Department told News 2 they immediately responded to the school upon receiving a tip.

In an alert to parents, the school’s principal noted leaders received a “report from a concerned citizen who observed a juvenile at a bus stop with what appeared to be a weapon.”

Once at the school, officers launched an investigation and search – they were able to locate and secure a loaded gun.

The juvenile was transported to a detention center where he has been charged with unlawful carry of a pistol and carrying a weapon on school grounds.

He is expected to appear before a family court judge.

“I want to thank the concerned, vigilant citizen who reported what they observed,” said Principal Steele in the alert to parents.
