JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – Police confirmed to News 2 they recovered a body from the water near James Island on Friday. Details about that body – including its identity – were not provided.
According to Sgt. Elisabeth Wolfsen with the Charleston Police Department, the body was recovered near Lighthouse Point.
Both Charleston PD and the Charleston County Rescue Squad responded to the area around 11:00 a.m. after a boater reported seeing what they believed to be human remains.
At the scene, police located and recovered a deceased person from a marsh area.
“The deceased individual has not been identified at this point,” said Sgt. Wolfsen. “The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the person once they are able to determine an identity.”
