ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCBD) – Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell announced a man has been charged after a woman suffered knife wounds to the neck.

Ravenell said 34-yer-old Laterrence Mack of Orangeburg was charged with attempted murder in an incident of domestic violence.

“This makes no sense,” the sheriff said. “If you have problems, talk. Talk about the problems. This is just despicable.” The Caesar Court man went before a magistrate on Tuesday. Bond was deferred during that hearing to a circuit court judge at a later date.

OCSO investigators and EMS were called to Mack’s residence where they found a woman lying on the ground in the front yard with several people tending to her.

Deputies assisted in holding a towel to the woman’s neck to stem the bleeding. She had been cut several times.

The victim told deputies her husband began an argument with her. She said she ran to a room to escape the man. However, the man caught up with the victim and sliced her neck with a box cutter several times.

She managed to flee the residence and collapsed in the front yard. Several children inside the home watching TV were not injured.

Mack faces up to 30 years, if convicted.

Inv. Lakesha Gillard is leading the ongoing investigation.
