Police: Second suspect arrested following March shooting outside Cummins Plant

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities have arrested a second suspect following the homicide incident outside of the Cummins Turbo Plant in North Charleston.

Public Information Officer Spencer Pryor stated that Jamal Dwayne Smalls Jr, wanted for murder was apprehended this morning in Atlanta, Georgia. Officials stated that Smalls is currently held in the Fulton County jail. The North Charleston Police Department has initiated extradition protocol.

NCPD spokesman Spencer Pryor said the first arrest was 23-year-old Ishmal Rashad Weston in connection to the shooting which happened in the plant’s parking lot.

Witnesses said a man was leaving the warehouse on Palmetto Commerce Parkway when a car drove up and fired shots at the victim before fleeing the scene.

When officers arrived, they found a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot. That victim dies from injuries they sustained during the shooting.

Weston is charged with murder and is expected to appear in bond court Friday morning.

Pryor said the investigation is ongoing with additional arrests possible.
