Report: Man threatens to kill officers, minorities after DUI arrest

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – A Mount Pleasant man is facing charges of DUI and Threatening the Life of a Public Official after allegedly shouting in the back of a patrol vehicle while in custody, according to the police report.

John McKee Burgis, 56, of Mount Pleasant crashed into two vehicles at the intersection of Chuck Dawley Boulevard and Bowman Road at approximately 8:42 p.m., according to the incident report. The officer that responded to the scene detected a distinct odor of an alcoholic beverages and had Burgis perform sobriety tests, authorities added.

When the officer provided the instructions for the Walk and Turn test, Burgis ignored the tasks and said “**** you” as he was walking away, the report stated.

The incident report states that after failing to follow instructions Burgis was place under-arrest for DUI and put in the back of the patrol vehicle and that is when he interrupted the Miranda Warning but going on a torrent of racial expletives.

Burgis started to make statements and racial slurs and saying that he was going to shoot Black and Jewish people and that he can’t wait for when the time comes.

He continued to speak down to the officer and stated “..I might walk into your Police Station and Uzi your **** up”. The torrent rant went on until they reached the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Burgis refused to sign any forms pertaining to the breath analysis procedure but did state that he had three beers at a friend’s house, according to the police report. Officers did locate a shot size bottle of Fireball that was unopened and also located the red caps to the same bottle but the bottle was missing.
