RAVENEL, S.C. (WCBD) — The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office are continuing their search for a missing man after a boating accident in Ravenel.

The search began after authorities received a called around 9 p.m. on Wednesday night about a boat that hit a bridge near Wallace Creek.

A woman made it to safety, and was taken to the hospital. A man, who was also in the boat, is still missing.

Emergency crews have been searching the area using boats and a helicopter.

A DNR official said that search crews will suspend their efforts after dark but will continue looking for the man in the morning.

“In incidents like this we stay all the way through. We stay until rescue is made or either recovery is made,” said Lieutenant Michael Paul Thomas, with DNR.

He added that the boat involved in the accident has been recovered and said that it appears it did not capsize.
