Riley, Tecklenburg announce commissioning of the USS Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – Charleston mayor John Tecklenburg and former mayor Joe Riley on Monday announced the commissioning of the USS Charleston.

This is the 6th ship to be named after the Holy City.

Both spoke on what it means to them to have a combat ship named after Charleston.

“It’s a proud honor for the  City of Charleston to have a historic naval vessel named for our city,“ said Tecklenburg.

The official commissioning ceremony for the USS Charleston will take place Saturday, March 2nd.
