ISLE OF PALMS, SC (WCBD) – Hurricane Michael is projected to become a major hurricane Tuesday as it takes aim at the Florida panhandle.
The storm is expected to push heavy rain, strong winds and isolated tornadoes into South Carolina Wednesday evening into Thursday.
Storm Team 2 meteorologists are forecasting 3-6″ of rain, which combined with higher than normal tides, could produce minor to moderate flooding, especially closer to the coast.
Leaders on the Isle of Palms want businesses and residents to be prepared for any potential impacts like flooding or beach erosion.
Free sand bags are now available to residents at the Public Safety Building at 30 JC Long Blvd. and sand is available at the large Municipal Parking Lot on Pavilion Drive.
