SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Some local student filmmakers will have their short film shown in hundreds of movie theaters across the country this summer.

A team of SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) students from the School of Entertainment Arts has been crowned first place in the 2019 Coca-Cola Regal Films program.

Coca-Cola and Regal asked students to submit a 30-second script about the moviegoing experience, and finalists received a trip to Los Angeles for some training and a kickoff event. The top 5 groups were also given $15,000 and camera gear to aid in the production process.

The team from SCAD, led by producer Shayain Lakhani and director Devon Solwold, beat out 30 other groups, including four other finalists: New York University, the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and The New School.

Their winning short “Choose Happy” features talented student actors, stunning animations, a cheerful score, and some beautiful shots of the Regal Cinema in North Charleston, South Carolina.

From production design to casting and acting, SCAD had the only team competing with a project completed entirely by students.

“Choose Happy” will be screened at Regal theatres nationwide this summer, starting in May. Keep an eye out for it on the big screen, or check it out here.
