COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCBD) – Forest Hills Elementary on Friday hosted a Remembrance Day to celebrate the life of 10-year-old RaNiya Wright.

Students came to school dressed in purple and royal blue, RaNiya’s favorite colors, according to district spokesman, Sean Gruber.

Debi Price, Raniya’s favorite teacher, and several students gave brief speeches reflecting on the young girl’s life over the school intercom.

Gruber said everyone in the school then participated in a moment of silence.

After the moment of silence, members of the district’s PREPaRE support teams visited with school employees and students to offer support and counseling services.

Gruber said students displayed homemade posters and sympathy cards in their classrooms, which will be collected and sent to the Wright family.

Cottageville Elementary School also donated several children’s books to Forest Hills Elementary in memory of RaNiya.
