CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) - At approximately 9:08 PM on August 22, Troopers with the SC Highway Patrol investigated a collision that occurred between a Charleston County Sheriff’s Office 2015 Chevy Tahoe K9 vehicle and a 2000 Ford Ranger Pickup truck on Lincolnville Road near Yaupon Street, according to Lance Corporal Matt Southern with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The sheriff’s department vehicle was traveling eastbound on Lincolnville Road, Southern added. The Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling westbound on Lincolnville Road.
The driver of the pickup truck attempted to make a left turn onto Yaupon Street, while under the influence, failing to yield the right of way and was subsequently struck by the sheriff’s department vehicle, Southern stated.
The driver of the pickup truck was identified as Frank Legree Gourdine, 54, of Goose Creek. Troopers charged Gourdine with Driving Under the Influence and Operating an Uninsured Vehicle.
He was also cited for a seatbelt violation. Once released from Trident Hospital, Gourdine was arrested and transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center, Southern said.
