South Carolina Advocates for Epilepsy hosting “Purple with a Purpose” event

Local News

The South Carolina Advocates for Epilepsy and a local restaurant are partnering to kick off National Epilepsy Awareness Month in November with an event to raise awareness about epilepsy.

“Purple with a Purpose” will be held on Nov. 3 at the Bohemian Bull on James Island and will feature an oyster roast and barbecue, live music, a silent auction and more.

The event is the largest fundraiser for the The South Carolina Advocates for Epilepsy, or SAFE. Its core mission is to educate the public about epilepsy and advocate for people who suffer from the disorder.

“People don’t want to admit they have epilepsy because there are a lot of effects that can come down from that, whether it’s not being able to drive anymore, not being able to work, being discriminated against,” said Laney Wilson with SAFE.

The event begins at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets cost $25.
