Summerville Fire & Rescue accepting applications

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – Summerville Fire & Rescue is currently accepting applications for its annual Citizens Fire Academy Class 1801!

This is a free, seven-week program that will give our citizens a first-hand look at how their fire department operates and get a better understanding of the jobs that firefighters perform, according ot the news release.

It’s open to those that are 21 years of age and older and residents of the Town of Summerville. Classes will be Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. from October 23 through December 5, 2018 at the Summerville Fire & Rescue training facility at 1105 Yancey St.

Tuesday, November 6, 2018 Apparatus Familiarization/Tools and Equipment
Tuesday, November 13, 2018 Fire Behavior
Tuesday, November 20, 2018 Fire Ground Operations/Live Burn
Tuesday, November 27, 2018 Vehicle Extraction/Aerial Operations
Wednesday, December 5, 2018 Graduation at the annual Summerville Fire & Rescue Business meeting/promotional Ceremony.

“This is a quality program and unique experience for the people of Summerville,” Summerville Fire & Rescue Captain Ben Woods Jr. said. “It’s a good way for our citizens to get a safe behind-the-scenes look at what it means to be a firefighter and some of what we go through. I’m happy to see more of an interest from the public for the Citizens Fire Academy. We’ve put a great deal of effort into making it successful.”
