Suspect in custody after armed robbery, shots fired in N. Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – A suspect is in custody following reports of an armed robbery and shots fired in North Charleston.

The initial call went out around 2:45 p.m. for an armed robbery at a business in the 3900 block of Rivers Avenue.

According to NCPD spokesman, Spencer Pryor, a male suspect approached a female with a weapon and conducted an armed robbery.

Pryor said the male suspect then fled the scene on foot towards the Pine Forest Apartments where he the carjacked a subject, stole their silver SUV and later collided with a pick-up truck on Rivers Avenue near McMillian Avenue.

The suspect again fled on foot to an area behind Restaurant Depot.

At that point, we’re told a weapon was presented at officers and shots were exchanged between the suspect and officers.

Chief Reggie Burgess told Count on 2 the suspect was taken into custody.

The robbery victim, officers nor the suspect were injured. The suspect, however, was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

SLED is en route to investigate as per protocol when shots are fired by a law enforcement officer.
