NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD)– The Urban Land Institute’s Advisory Service Panel is studying ways to redevelop the former Naval Hospital along with other nearby areas.
The group will present their findings on Friday at North Charleston City Hall. The presentation will take place at 9 a.m. and is open to the public.
For the past week, ULI representatives have engaged residents and Lowcountry leaders to make recommendations on community improvements to the southern Rivers Avenue corridor in North Charleston, which includes the former Shipwatch Square and Naval Hospital sites. As part of this visit, the panel considered how to support the goals of the greater community while focusing on preserving the neighborhood’s quality of life and affordability.
The team is looking at the appropriate density and scale of development. They were also asked to examine ways to encourage investment while mitigating or minimizing the disruption to existing neighborhoods.
