Teen robbed after agreeing to buy cell phone on Facebook

Charleston, SC (WCBD) – Charleston Police arrested a suspect for an armed robbery that happened around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 5 2019 at King Street and Market Street. The victim says he was robbed after agreeing to buy a cell phone on Facebook.

Police say Antoine Zaire Alston, 17, is charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Alston was being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.

The victim told police he agreed to meet the seller at King Street and Market Street. When the victim was trying to reach a deal with him, police say Alston pulled out a handgun and robbed him.

The Charleston Police Department has established two Safe Exchange Zones to provide a safe environment for people looking to buy, sell, or trade items in private transactions with strangers.

The Safe Exchange Zones are located in the parking lot of the Charleston Police Department at 180 Lockwood Boulevard and the West Ashley Team Four office at 3545 Mary Ader Avenue.
