Charleston, S.C. (WCBD)- Officials and volunteers are preparing for organized search efforts in Lee County, Alabama and Tabotton, Georgia.
Tornadoes touched down there on Sunday killing 23 people and placing 2 in intensive care.
The storm is one of several tornadoes that sprung up in the southeast including a tornado touching down in Georgia. Heavy rainfall from these strong storms is resulting in widespread flooding.
Single family homes have been wiped clean to a slab. Search and rescue operations were launched throughout the Southeast but are paused overnight because conditions and debris are too dangerous for crews.
President trump released a statement on twitter saying, “to the great people of Alabama and surrounding areas: please be careful and safe. Tornadoes and storms were truly violent and more could be coming. To the families and friends of the victims, and to the injured, god bless you all!”
