Tri-county leaders discuss final preparations for Hurricane Florence impact

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) –  Tri-county leaders discussed the final preparations for Hurricane Florence potential impact for this weekend.

A spokesperson with the Charleston County is urging evacuations resident of the Lowcountry, according to the news conference. A Dorchester County official stated during the press conference that there is a pet friendly shelter available for residents.

There is four shelters in Dorchester County and five in Berkeley County, officials added.

Officials are stating to residents that if they are planning to stay at a shelter that they should bring food and a sleeping bag. A hurricane information line is available in Dorchester County at 843-832-0393.

Dorchester County First Responders will be pulled off the road once wind hits 30 mph, according to officials.

Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie is urging residents to evacuate town and seek safe shelter. Haynie also stated that the town is prepared for the worst case scenario and that officers are on patrol. He is also asking residents to keep an eye out for people potentially trying to loot properties once people evacuate.
