The U.S. Department of State wants you to know, February and March are the best months to apply for or renew your U.S. passport.

During these months, processing times are lower, only 3-4 weeks for routine service and 2-3 weeks for expedite service.  Expedite service costs an additional $60.

In 2018, the U.S. Department of State processed a record breaking 21 million passport applications and they anticipate those numbers will rise in 2019.  If you wait to apply for your passport during peak summer months, it will take longer to get your passport.

AAA Charleston is partnering with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the U.S. Department of State to host a special Passport Fair and TSA Pre-check Registration Event on Wednesday, February 27, 2019.

The event is a convenient way to apply for or renew your U.S. passport and also register for TSA Pre-Check.  U.S. passport holders who have less than six months of validity on their passports should consider renewing their passports now. Some foreign countries require up to 6 months of validity on your passport to enter. For more details on that, click here.
