MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCBD) – Two people were arrested early Wednesday morning after crashing a stolen vehicle into a utility pole along Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant.

We’re told the crash happened around 5:00 a.m. near Stockade Lane.

When officers with the Mount Pleasant Police Department arrived at the scene, they found a light pole had been struck by a 2013 Ford Focus. No occupants were located at the crash site.

A check of the license plate revealed that the car was stolen out of Georgetown.

Officers and a K9 unit began to search the perimeter. Two people later directed officers to two suspects who were seen sitting in the lobby of the Holiday End Express on Stockade Lane.

While speaking with the subject, officer Chip Googe said a K-9 unit conducted a track that led the handler to the Holiday Inn Express.

A prescription bottle was located in the stolen vehicle with the name A.J. Brown on the label that matched the name of one of the subjects at the Holiday Inn Express.

Both subjects were later taken into custody.

AJ Brown, of Georgetown, was arrested and charged with Possession of a stolen motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a collision with a fixed object, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The other subject, a 14-year-old juvenile, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
