CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)- Carolina Youth Development Center’s biggest fundraiser of the year is coming up at the end of September.
Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC) originally opened its doors in 1790 as the Charleston Orphan House. It is the oldest public orphanage in the country. CYDC has residential group homes, housing about 50 children on a daily basis with ages ranging from 0-21. The center also has programs like Big Brothers, Big Sisters and Freedom School.
CYDC depends on state funding and community donations. Their upcoming gala, “A Night for the Children”, is Friday, September 28th from 7-11 PM at Memminger Auditorium. Early bird ticket pricing continues until September 1st and tickets can be purchased here.
