The disputed county line between Dorchester and Berkeley Counties may be settled later this year.
The South Carolina Geodetic Survey has been working to re-establish where the line is located and determined that hundreds of residents currently living in Dorchester County will later find themselves living in Berkeley County once it is re-established.
A state official says that litigation has delayed the change.
The disputed section of the line stretches from the Ridgeville area to Summerville area.
Some residents with properties near the contested line say they just want the issue to be settled.
“I’d like it to happen quicker,” said resident Joshua Cope. “I’d like there to be some of the uncertainty ruled out. It’s not a big problem, one way or the other, it’s just time for this decision to take place.”
David Ballard, who works for the South Carolina Geodetic Survey, said he is expecting the change to take effect after Election Day in November.
