Waccamaw River continues to rise, flooding concerns in Georgetown

Local News

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCBD) – Storm Team 2 continues to monitor the Waccamaw River in Georgetown County as levels continue to rise.

The gauge upstream in Conway is forecast to rise another foot and half by Thursday and the river levels aren’t expected to recede much late week.

Keep in mind, areas downstream see the river rises later in the week and into the weekend as the water takes extra time to make it further downstream

Areas around the Waccamaw River remain under a flood warning in anticipation of potential impacts. Even areas that are of higher elevation, but are surround by lower levels that could flood should take precautions as those areas could be isolated in the event of high water levels.

As of Monday morning, no significant rainfall is expected in the next several days. However, the potential for more rain into Eastern North Carolina is possible this weekend.
