Yoga with goats now offered in Summerville

Local News

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD)- Tucked away in Summerville on the edge of the suburbs is a miniature farm, known as “Flowertown Charm”.

Owner, Jennifer Pelayo, says, “When we first moved to South Carolina we wanted to live in the country because we wanted an old house to fix up with a farm. But because of my husband’s work, we didn’t want to commute as far out as Ridgeville or Holly Hill, so we settled with our home here in Summerville, which we love, and we are so happy that we did. But then we couldn’t have our big farm, so my husband said ‘Why don’t we have a farm on a smaller scale?’ and I said, ‘Let’s do it!'”

You are invited to sample a piece of paradise with an outdoor yoga class.

Pelayo says, “”Just getting outside of the four walls of a studio and getting outdoors, getting some sunshine, and having a smile on your face.”

But in this yoga class, you have some special classmates: goats!

Yoga instructor Joseph Vinciguerra says, “Yoga can certainly be a serious practice for some people and that’s great, that’s fine, but goat yoga is just going to be all fun, all joy.”

It’s just like regular yoga, with some added entertainment.

Pelayo says, “Our girls are so social, they love people. Our Airbnb guests are always excited to play with them, and I met Joe and we just said, lets do this!”

Their first goat yoga class is happening on Friday and is already sold out, but don’t worry, you can join one of their next classes coming up in May.

Plus, Pelayo says, “In the fall we’re hoping for some babies, then we can do baby goat yoga. Usually goats will have anywhere from 1-5 kids per kidding, so we’re hoping to have a few.”

The classes are open to any skill level and cost $24.50. For more information or to sign up for an upcoming class, click here.
