The bond court appearance for Dylann Roof was extremely emotional as the family members of the nine victims were gathered in court. A number of them offered forgiveness to Roof for what he has done to their family. We also learned more about how he was caught so quickly.

The affidavit points out that Roof’s uncle and father called police to identify him after seeing his photograph on TV.

Multiple family members of the victims, like Nadine Collier, Ethel Lance’s daughter, offered Roof their forgiveness in court. “I forgive you. You took something very precious away from me. I will never talk to her ever again. I will never be able to hold her again, but I forgive you. Have mercy on your soul.”

After the bond hearing, Nadine talked to the media about her mother, who worked for the Gilliard auditorium for 34 years. “I’m gonna miss her, and she will never be forgotten. My mother was a strong woman.”

And she instilled strength in her family. “We will be okay. She’s in a better place now. That we all are trying to get there. But God knows the Lance family is going to be okay.”

Throughout the court appearance, Roof showed little or no emotion.

The judge could not set bond on the murder charges. He set a $1 million bond on the possession of a firearm during the crime.
