NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – A 42-year-old man was taken to the hospital after he was bitten on the foot by what he believes to be a three to five foot long shark.

North Myrtle Beach spokesperson Pat Dowling says the man is from Delaware and was floating on his back in the ocean around 3:25 p.m. around 12th Avenue South when he felt a tug on his foot, then felt his foot taken into the fish’s mouth.

The man was able to shake his foot loose from the fish’s mouth and made it to shore, Dowling explains. There were puncture wounds and blood on the man’s foot. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, adds Dowling.
