GREENWOOD, SC (WSPA) – Greenwood Co. deputies say they had to taze a man to prevent him from eating crack he had stored in a sock.

Deputies say they were dispatched to Highway 25 and Highway 178 for a call of an intoxicated driver.

They caught up with the vehicle and saw it cross the center line so they turned on the blue lights to pull the car over, according to deputies.

They say the driver, Arthur Usher had his pants around his ankles and his shoes and socks were off in the floor board.

When they asked him why his clothes were off, he told them he was hot, according to the report.

They told him to get out of the car and he pulled his pants up.

Deputies say he put his hands in both of his pants pockets.

They told him to take them out, but he kept one hand in one of his pockets and was manipulating something in that pocket.

The report says they grabbed his wrist and told him to stop what he was doing and remove his hand.

They say he became passive resistant and started yelling.

Deputies got his hand out of his pocket and saw that he had a small sock in his hand with something in it.

One of the deputies says they grabbed the sock and felt several small rock-like substances in it that they believed were narcotics.

It later tested positive for fast crack cocaine weighing 4.82 grams, according to the report.

Usher was put on the ground and tried to put the sock or the rocks in his mouth.

They tazed him to prevent him from eating the crack.

The sheriff’s office is seeking warrants for possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and resisting arrest.
