Moncks Corner bank armed robbery suspect arrested


MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) — Moncks Corner Police, along with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal Service and Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, have arrested the man suspected of armed robbery last month.

According to police, on October 5, Martel Smalls, 31, entered the Advance America Savings and Loan Office on Highway 52 in Moncks Corner and robbed them of several hundred dollars in cash. Smalls showed a handgun, and ran off.

In the following days, Moncks Corner Polie Detectives identified him as the suspect. Smalls was arrested on Tuesday, November 8, and faces armed robbery charges and possession of a stolen firearm. Moncks Corner Detectives recovered the handgun along with additional evidence in the robbery.

Smalls confessed to the robbery and is being looked at in the commission of other robberies in the Lowcountry.
