CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – Investigators say a 17-year-old is dead because of an aggressive driver who flashed his lights and honked before hitting her vehicle.

32-year-old Jonathan Spicher of Summerville is charged with reckless homicide in the Dec. 2 death of Gracie Benjamin. His bail is $100,000.

Mount Pleasant police say Spicher’s BMW drove up behind Benjamin’s sport utility vehicle at 88 mph on Interstate 526. Benjamin switched lanes to get out of the way at the same time Spicher switched lanes to go around her. Her SUV flipped several times, throwing Benjamin onto the interstate.

A third vehicle then hit Benjamin. The driver, 28-year-old Matthew McIntosh, is charged with obstruction of justice for leaving the scene. His bail is $75,000.

Spicher’s attorney says he pulled over and stayed until police arrived.
