Due to the summer time, many more people are utilizing their motorcycles and mopeds due to the nicer weather.

The Charleston Police Department has noticed an increase in motorcycle and moped thefts, due to victims leaving their motorcycles and mopeds unsecure.

The Charleston Police Department recommends that every time you have completed riding the motorcycle or moped, even if it’s in the parking lot of the grocery store, to lock the motorcycle or moped with a device similar to the one pictured below.

This type of lock prevents the rotor from moving more than the circumference of the rotor, meaning that if a subject wishes to steal the bike, they would have to lift it up.

Normal handlebar locks can be easily defeated, merely by pulling hard enough.  There are a variety of rotor locks available online, ranging in price from $15 to $100 (with alarms).
