MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) – Police hope to have new tools in place as they work to avoid problems during the upcoming Atlantic Beach Bikefest this year.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported that dozens of law enforcement, rescue personnel, medical professionals and government leaders met in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday to review plans for the Memorial Day weekend motorcycle rally.

Myrtle Beach Police Chief Warren Gall said his department should have stationary license plate readers operational by Memorial Day. Gall says police need the license plate readers to help alert them when vehicles are linked to crimes enter or leave the city.

Gall said 42 devices will cover the city’s eight major gateway roads.

Three people were killed in eight shootings during the 2014 Bikefest. There were no shooting deaths last year
