WASHINGTON (WCBD) – Help is on the way for thousands of veterans struggling with GI bill payments that help cover education and housing.
The VA hired a private contractor to upgrade the computer system used to make those payments.
The contractor says the issue is in trying to make old computer systems work with new programming.
“Many of these underlining systems are past – at or very near – their intended dates for retirement,” said Richard Crowe of Booz Allen Hamilton, an information technology consulting company. “As a result, we have had to program an elaborate set of interfaces to draw from these different and dated systems.”
Veterans who run into issues can call the VA call center at 888-442-4551 for help with their GI benefits.
