UPDATE 3: The Riverchase Galleria has released the following statement via Facebook:
“We are devastated by the incident that happened tonight in our shopping center. We are working closely with the Hoover Police Department and are grateful for their swift action to contain the situation. While there is no current danger to our community, the shopping center will remain closed until further notice.”
UPDATE 2: Hoover Police Chief Gregg Rector has briefed the media and confirmed that the shooter is dead on the scene after an officer-involved shooting with a Hoover officer. The shooter got into a physical altercation with another person, which led to shots being fired. An 18-year-old has been transported to UAB hospital with a gunshot wound and is considered to be in serious condition. There was also a 12-year-old girl who suffered a gunshot wound, but she was alert on the scene.
UPDATE 1: According to Lt. Keith Czeskleba with Hoover Police, there was a shooting at the Galleria, but the threat is no longer active. Police are now working to evacuate everyone inside.
HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — Both Hoover Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports of shots fired at the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover.
This incident comes in the middle of Black Friday, arguably the busiest shopping day of the year.
