Authorities have charged a man with murder in a 1984 cold case out of Florida.

They announced the arrest of 59-year-old Thomas Lewis Garner Thursday.

Garner is accused of killing Navy airman apprentice, Pamela Cahanes.

The 25-year-old’s body was found near a vacant home near Sanford more than 30 years ago. Detectives say she was strangled.

According to the sheriff, Garner served in the US Navy at the same time as Cahanes.

Investigators point to DNA left on the victim’s clothing at the scene as the evidence that eventually led them to Garner.

He is now being held without bond at a Sanford prison on a first-degree murder charge.
