7 hurt in Savannah horse carriage accident

Several people got hurt when a horse leading a carriage ride in Savannah, Georgia got spooked.

It happened downtown around lunch time. The tour company owner said a tree limb fell and scared the horse.

When the horse took off running, it scared people in the area and they tried to stop the horse. That’s when the carriage tipped over, pinning several people underneath.

A group of workers nearby ran over to help.

John Tarr, Historic Savannah Carriage Tours Owner – “One of the tree cutters evidently spooked the horse a little bit. He took off trotting and went through the stop sign there and as he was coming across a car or something, someone thought he was out of control and tried to pull in front of him to stop him, which is never a good idea with a horse.”

David Major, Witness – “It looked like something coming out of a movie, man. I never seen anything like this before.”

The carriage driver and four others got hurt. None of those injuries is considered life-threatening.

the horse was not hurt.
