COLUMBUS, GA (WRBL) – People in the military are officially getting a pay raise.

President Trump signed the National Defense Authorization Act which includes many charges for the Defense Department.

The Pentagon says troops will receive a 2.6 percent increase in salary, the highest rate in nine years.

“This bills a bi-partisan package, so while the administration supported the pay raise, so did Democrats in Congress,” Scott Anderson of the Brookings Institute says.

Congress named the bill in the honor of Arizona Senator John Mccain.

The longtime Senator and former POW is battling brain cancer and was not at Monday’s signing ceremony.
