GULF COAST (WCBD) – Gordon weaken on Wednesday after making landfall late Tuesday night as a strong tropical storm.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the storm had downgraded to a tropical depression as it moved through the lower Mississippi River Valley. Flash flood watches and warnings remained from Florida to Arkansas.
People near the Alabama-Mississippi border spent Wednesday cleaning up after the storm made landfall just to the west of the state line.
The storm packed a punch in Alabama, bringing heavy winds, rain and high surf to Dauphin Island where widespread power outages were reported on Wednesday. There were no reports of any injuries or widespread damage to the island.
In Atmore, Alabama, wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour were reported as Gordon moved through. In nearby Escambia County, Florida, emergency crews reported a tree fell on a mobile home, killing a child.
