RUTHERFORD COUNTY, NC (WCBD) – A North Carolina soldier is home after being away from his daughter for three years.
Josh Martin surprised his daughter, Zaylee during a game of “heads up seven up” at her school in Rutherford County, North Carolina this week.
Martin waited for her to open her eyes with a bouquet of flowers.
It was the first time they’d seen each other in six months.
“It’s a big difference from being on the phone and being in person,” said Martin. “Missing three years, basically, of her life… it was really hard. But I’m home for good now.”
Martin was stationed at Fort Hood in Texas for two years.
He now plans to start a new job at a nuclear plant after serving nine months in South Korea.
