IRS asking thousands of employees to voluntarily return to work

WASHINGTON (WCBD) – The Internal Revenue Service is asking thousands of employees to voluntarily return to work to help get taxpayers their refunds.

The agency said they need more workers to perform essential functions like opening mail and processing paper returns.

The IRS says they will follow social distancing guidelines, require and provide personnel with protective equipment and offer incentive pay.
