New pastor of Emanuel AME church moved to different church

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – There are reports that the pastor of the church where 9 people were killed June 17, 2015 has been assigned to a new church.  Reverend Dr. Betty Deas Clark is the first woman pastor of the historic Emanuel AME church in Charleston.  She has lead the church since the interim pastor Reverend Dr. Norvel Goff returned to his position as presiding elder over the Seventh District AME Church. Dr. Richard Norris is the Bishop of the 7th district.

Sources say that Dr. Clark has been moved to a church in a Georgetown.  The name of the church has not been released.  Several calls were made to Emanuel AME church requesting interviews with Dr. Clark.  A spokesperson for the church would not confirm that she has been reassigned. Reverend Clark came to Mother Emanuel after the minister State Senator Reverend Clemente Pickney and 8 people were gunned down during Bible study.

Dr. Anthony Thompson confirmed that he would lead the Bible study on Wednesday night.  He said that he is “shocked” by the news that Reverend Clark has been reassigned.
